The sole purpose of life, I feel
Is to love and be loved, and master
A full expression of this wondrous energy
In all we think, say and do.
Yet life in all its chaotic otherness
Tempts us into withholding our love,
Protecting our hearts,
Avoiding the pain of loss
Or rejection,
Of failure and lack of acceptance.
The volatility of our hearts
Belies the TRUTH of love’s peaceful goal
But love not only soothes the soul
But angers, rages and takes up arms
As a mother bear will kill to protect her cubs
So our hearts, filled with loving energy,
Can create bombs to explode false prejudice
And reclaim its land for its own.
From that loving rage comes a new beginning
A fertile land upon which
Anything can happen.
